According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the next phase of the mixed-use Tacoma Town Center development is to begin construction in April 2022. When complete, the project will have approximately 530 market-rate units, 100 affordable-housing units, 200,000 square feet of office space and 36,000 square feet of retail space, across five buildings on 6.4 acres in the Brewery District.
A new pedestrian and bicycle promenade and retail plaza will also be constructed in the middle of the site. The plaza provides a connection with the City of Tacoma’s master bike path plan and the University of Washington Tacoma campus.
The developer, Galena Equity Partners, plans to begin construction in April of buildings 3 and 4, which include 239 apartments ranging from 430 to 1,400 square feet, two retail spaces of 5,800 square feet, and 185 parking spaces. Buildings 5 & 6, on the uphill side of the development, will begin construction after Buildings 3 & 4. They include 250 apartments, two retail spaces of 2,200 square feet each, and 215 parking spaces.
Building 2 was completed in March 2021 by North America Asset Management Group. The 144-unit apartment and retail building is called Jefferson Yards. Absher Construction is the general contractor and Caron is the architect on the project.
