The Seattle Office of Housing has awarded $2.64 million to build 18 new affordable homes through the Rainier Valley Affordable Homeownership Initiative.

The 10th and final site awarded through the program will go to Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties (Habitat SKKC) and Jabooda Cares, which will be responsible for delivering the project at 6701 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. With the latest project, the initiative will have resulted in 127 new homes.

“For too long, homeownership has felt out of reach for working-class families and communities of color in Seattle, the very neighbors most likely to be pushed out of the neighborhoods they helped build,” said Mayor Katie B. Wilson in a statement. “These new homes from Habitat and Jabooda Cares open the door to ownership. When we make investments like this, we help families stay rooted here, building a future that stays with them for generations."

Habitat SKKC and Jabooda Cares are planning 14 two-bedroom homes and 4 three-bedroom homes, all priced for residents earning up to 80 of the area median income. Plans also call for a ground floor community space.  

RVAHI, formed in 2022, is a partnership between the City of Seattle and Sound Transit.

Habitat SKKC has previously developed housing on several other sites awarded by the City and Sound Transit.
